Privacy Policy

Calibrew keeps your log on your iPhone. The only thing that can leave it is what you choose to share, anonymously, to help the coach learn — and this page says exactly what that is.

What the app stores

Everything you enter — your bags of coffee, your brews and their verdicts, your equipment setups and the coach's history — is written to a file inside the app's own storage on your iPhone. Nobody else can read it, including us.

That includes the drinks and glasses of water you log, and your caffeine settings. If you turn on water reminders, iOS asks whether Calibrew may send notifications; they are scheduled on the phone, and nothing is sent anywhere.

The camera

Calibrew can read a bag's label so you don't have to type it. The first time you choose Scan the label, iOS asks whether Calibrew may use the camera. The picture is read on your iPhone by Apple's built-in text recognition; it is never saved and never leaves the phone, and only the words you tap go into the form. You can say no and pick a photo instead — iOS then hands the app only the photo you choose — or simply type.

When you share a dialed-in recipe, you can also take a photo, or choose one, to put the card on. It is only used to draw the picture on your iPhone: Calibrew does not keep it, and it goes nowhere unless you share the finished picture yourself. Save puts the picture in Photos: iOS asks once whether Calibrew may add to your library, and the app never reads it.

Where that data goes

Nowhere, unless you send it. Three things can move it off the phone, and all three are yours to start:

• Your iCloud or computer backup. The app's file is included in your device backup the same way other apps' data is, under your Apple Account and Apple's encryption. We have no access to it.
• Export my log in the app's Profile tab, which hands you a JSON file through the normal iOS share sheet. Where it goes from there is entirely your choice.
• Help the coach learn, if you say yes: see the next section.

Sharing brews to help the coach learn

After setup, Calibrew asks once whether you want to share your brews, so the coach can learn how big a change each cup needs. Nothing is sent unless you say yes, and you can change your answer at any time in Profile → Help the coach learn.

What is sent: each brew's recipe and, if you changed the coach's numbers, the coach's recipe beside it; how the brew came out (yield and time), your taste verdict and any cupping scores; the day it was brewed and how many days off roast the coffee was; the models of your machine and grinder from the app's catalogue, and the type of scale; the coffee's type as the app reads it — origin, region, process, roast, varieties and whether it is decaf — and the app version.

What is never sent: your name, email address, location, device identifiers, the time of day, the names of your bags, roasters or setups, tasting notes, comments, label text, or anything else you type. (Any connection carries your IP address; it is not stored with the brews, and the provider's request logs keep it only briefly.)

How it is filed: under a random code made on your iPhone, with a random key that proves later changes come from the same phone. Neither is linked to you, and the key is stored only as a hash. Brews you delete in the app are deleted on the server too.

Where, and for how long: in a database run for us by Supabase in the European Union (Frankfurt). We use it only to improve the coach's advice and keep it for as long as it serves that. We never sell it, share it for advertising, or link it with other data.

Stopping and deleting: switching sharing off stops it. Delete what I've shared — or Delete everything — deletes everything this iPhone has sent. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Deleting it

Profile → Delete everything removes every bag, brew, setup and the dial-in history permanently, and deletes any brews you shared from the server too. Deleting the app removes the file with it; delete shared brews first with Delete what I've shared, or they stay on the server, anonymous, with nothing left to link them to you. There is no other copy anywhere.

Children

Calibrew is rated 4+ and collects no personal information from anyone, including children. The brews that can be shared contain none.

Changes

If a future version shares anything more, this page will say so before that version ships, the app will ask again, and the App Store privacy label will change with it. Today the label lists one thing, not linked to you: the brews you choose to share, used to improve the coach.
